No merger with AINRC, says Congress

V Narayanasamy, union minister of state for Prime Minister’s office (PMO), had cautioned the Congress workers against the impression that the party will merge with All India N R Congress because of the support extended to the UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee in the presidential election.

Narayanasamy was addressing the leaders and party workers at the PCC office on the occasion of the birth anniversary celebration of former Puducherry Chief Minister Edward Goubert on Sunday. The union minister said that the party was thankful for the AINRC’s support, but nobody should speculate that it would join Congress.

Narayanasamy pointed out that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal (United) and Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, who were part of BJP-led NDA alliance, had also supported the Congress presidential candidate. He asked if that meant their joining Congress.

The minister said Congress is a strong party and it will not hesitate to point out the mistakes of the ruling AINRC inside the assembly and outside. He said that Sonia Gandhi wanted the party to act as a responsible opposition in the UT and the leaders and workers should work towards fulfilling that aim.

Saying he knew CM N Rangasamy very well, who never kept his promises, the Union Minister alleged that when Rangasway was the Congress Chief Minister, he had ruled in an autocratic manner. The Union Minister also said that the assembly speaker V Sabapathy took part in his party meetings, against the neutral stand that he should follow.

Claiming that in N R Congress people were distributing cheques to cyclone-affected while the officials were watching, Narayanasamy reiterated that enquiry into it would be held soon.
