KOCHI: Stating that there were no differences of opinion in the BJP over L K Advani’s proposed ‘Rath Yatra’ against corruption, BJP All-India secretary P Muralidhar Rao has said that the yatra should not be seen as a competition against the anti-corruption campaign of Anna Hazare.Talking to reporters here, he said the Yatra should be seen only as a complementary action.On the US Congressional Research Service (CRS) report that 2014 elections could turn out to be a competition between Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for Prime ministership, Rao said that the decision of the party was not taken in the US. Pointing out that there were many able leaders in the party, he said the time to decide the prime ministerial candidate has not yet come.When asked about United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government’s decision to increase petrol prices, he said it would have cascading effect as it would lead to the spiraling of prices of essential commodities. The Manmohan Singh government did not have any novel ideas, he said and alleged that the government miserably failed to take effects to check price hike.On terrorism, Rao alleged that the government was only interested in misdirecting investigating agencies such as NIA and the CBI against its political adversaries. They were only aiming at the vote bank and as such they were coming up with ‘saffron terrorism,’ he said.When asked about the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple issue, he said that non-believers had no right to get involved in the issue. On the allegations that former BJP president Sreedharan Pillai had held secret talks with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader to subvert the CBI investigation into the Marad carnage, Rao said that it was only the creation of the media.
