CHENNAI: The fee fixation committee for selffinancing engineering colleges, headed by Justice N V Balasubramanian, on Tuesday announced its decision to retain the existing fee structure of Rs 62,500 for a seat in BE, B Arch and B Tech courses in the management quota and Rs 32,500 per seat in the government quota for non accredited courses of self financing private engineering colleges. The same slabs have been followed since June 2008.
Announcing the fivemember panel's recommendations for the academic year 201112, Justice Balasubramanian said the prevailing fee structure will continue for another year, as income earned by private engineering colleges-according to the existing fee structure-was still higher than their expenditure, and therefore sufficient. This was observed based on audited proposals submitted by 76 private selffinancing engineering colleges, including quarterly statements after tax deduction for teachers and employees. On a query regarding what action would be taken against errant colleges, Justice Balasubramanian, however, refused to elaborate.
