THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There was an interesting post on Facebook recently where each English alphabet was represented by technological terms. At ‘f’, it was of course Facebook. Seems people are in full support of the claim  that they can search and find each and everything. Those who ‘googled’ to find things have begun to ‘facebook’ it too. Interestingly, we came across a status update on Facebook, where one had posted a message seeking a suitable name for a baby boy starting with the letter ‘K’.  Though many had posted funny names and comments under the request, it revealed the influence of the social networking tool among netizens to find the best answer for their needs. Besides fun and frolic, Facebook is also a place where one can look for immediate response. Sree Ram H, an M Tech student at Vellore and a city resident, cannot forget an FB experience. “While browsing Facebook, I found a message seeking blood for a child  undergoing treatment at Regional Cancer Centre here. Our blood groups were same. I contacted them in the telephone number and was able to help her by donating blood.” He also got a quick solution when he wanted to find the nearest printer cartridge refilling centre in the city. For their local enquiries, people very often enter groups formed to cater to local requirements.Vijayakumar G, who works with a financial firm in Bangalore, needed to sell off his brand new four bedroom apartment in the city. He had waited for more than two weeks after giving advertisement in print. “A day after posting it on Facebook, I was able to get quick response from people. The number of responses I received in a day’s time was more than the response I got in several weeks,” he says. The reliability factor depends on many things. It does not charge money, helps find immediate response from those who know things better and is a suitable a place to find people of same interest and it goes on. Krishnapriya J, a journalism student in the city, has reasons to cite to support the convenience factor of Facebook. She says, “if we need to get something at the earliest, I think Facebook is the best alternative. To phone our friends or sending sms to them is expensive, time consuming and limited to a certain circle. Meanwhile, more people would respond online when we post a Facebook status update seeking an aid.”
