Nepal PM expands cabinet
The Nepal Prime Minister has expanded his seven member cabinet to include 11 new members from the ruling coalition.

Kathmandu: Nepal's Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Monday expanded his seven member cabinet to include 11 new members from the ruling coalition, after the exercise was held up for nearly a month due to internal bickering within the seven parties.

The new faces include Narendra Bikram Nemwang, who was given the portfolio of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Pradip Gyawali got the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation; Mangal Siddhi Manandhar got the Education portfolio while the Ministry of Water Resources was given to Chitralekha Yadav. Rajendra Pandey was made the Minister for Local Development.

Prime Minister Koirala continues to hold the Defence, Royal Palace, Health, Industry and Commerce portfolios, keeping the door open for further expansion of the cabinet as only four out of the seven parties have been represented in he expanded cabinet.

Appointments to seven posts were made three weeks ago with Koirala's Nepali Congress bagging the largest number of cabinet berths.

There are altogether 18 members in the expanded cabinet, including 12 ministers and six state ministers.
