Nemmeli plant to be commissioned by September

CHENNAI : With over 83 per cent of the work at Nemmeli desalination plant being completed, the plant is expected to be commissioned by September 2012. Municipal Administration and Rural Development Minister K P Munusamy reviewed work at Nemelli desalination plant recently and urged Metro Water officials and contractors to finish the work before September this year.The Cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) accorded approval to the project and sanctioned a grant of `871.24  crore for the project. Now the state is seeking an additional `983 crore for completing the project, he said. V A Tech Wabag Limited in consortium with IDE Technologies in Israel were awarded the contract for building the plant. It may be recalled that the contract for laying drinking water pipeline and tanks were given to Larsen and Toubro. Municipal administration and water secretary Sheela Balakrishnan and Metro Water managing director Apoorva Varma were also present on the occasion.
