Nayagarh villagers live in fear

NAYAGARH: Flood situation has worsened in Gania, Bhapur and Khandapara blocks with turbulent Mahanadi engulfing more and more areas.The Mahanadi has already crossed danger level at Kantilo and Badmul near Satakosia gorge.Gania block was the worst hit with 60 villages marooned, including 33 in Chhamundia panchayats and 23 tribal panchayats of Badasilinga.Two motorboats and 14 country boats have been pressed into service to ferry people and transport relief materials.Flood water was flowing above the Gania-Kuturi road and Chhamundia-Bentapada road disrupting traffic.In Bhapur block Manipur panchayat, Nuasahi in Karabar panchayat, Keutasahi in Banapur panchayat in Khandapada block were flooded.The Bhapur-Bhubaneswar road was closed to traffic as five-foot water was flowing at Kaligiri bridge.Traffic was also disrupted on the Kantilo- Fategada road as the water was flowing above the roads.The Mahanadi remains a threat for Sidhamula, Kantilo, Ghanasalia and Kumundi villages.A total of 90 relief centres have been opened by the district administration.
