Nanguneri shooting victims widow to get Rs 3 lakh, government job

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday announced a solatium of Rs three lakh to the family of Vanumamalai hailing from Margalkurichi village, who was gunned down by Nanguneri police inspector A Vijayakumar on July 24. She said a suitable job in the State government would be given to the widow of Vanumamalai.

The Chief Minister, in a statement here, said the assistance is being given to the family of Vanumamalai considering the poor economic condition of his family and the representations received by her for helping this family. The Chief Minister said  Vijayakumar conducted an enquiry on July 24 about the quarrel that took place between two groups of people over sand mining.

At that time, Vanumamalai attempted to attack Vijayakumar with a sickle and the latter opened fire in self-defence resulting in the death of Vanumamalai.  The Chief Minister said a magisterial enquiry is on into the incident.

Vaiko seeks action against inspector

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko will go on a fast on July 30 in front of the Nanguneri taluk office demanding action against Nanguneri police inspector A Vijayakumar who had gunned down Vanumamalai of Marugalkurichi village on July 24. 

Vaiko said the agitation would be an apolitical one and staged in a peaceful manner.

Vaiko also urged the State government to  render justice to the widow of Vanumamalai.
