NAMAKKAL: In the wake of the spread of dengue fever in neighbouring districts, officials here have initiated several measures to prevent the killer fever from spreading to the district.According to Deputy Director of Health Services N Chandra Mohan, “Hospitals-on-wheels (mobile vans) are being pressed into all the 15 blocs in the district for surveillance purpose. Each van will have a medical team comprising five personnel, including a doctor, a staff nurse and a lab technician.”He said the team would collect blood samples, if any one was found suffering from any kind of fever and the samples would be sent to the zonal entomological team (ZET) office in Salem where a test would be conducted.Noting that the medical team in the hospital-on-wheels would be working in coordination with village health nurses in identifying patients, Dr Chandra Mohan said all primary health centres and health sub-centres have been instructed to submit a report on fever cases in their areas on a daily basis. Moreover, private hospitals have also been asked to report any suspected fever cases. Meanwhile, a separate ward with 6 beds has been set up for treating dengue cases at the Government District Headquarters Hospital here.
