Nagaland will be witnessing a triangular contest for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the ensuing elections as none of the three candidates withdrew their nominations on Wednesday.
The last date of withdrawal ended this evening and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio of the ruling Naga Peoples' Front (NPF), former minister KV Pusa of Congress and Akhie Achumi of Socialist Party (India) remained in the fray.
The two major political parties in the state, the ruling NPF and opposition Congress would be officially launching their election campaigns tomorrow in Dimapur and Kohima respectively.
Rio being the consensus candidate of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) comprising BJP and JD(U), BJP sources said the party's national vice-president Smriti Irani was scheduled to address the DAN election campaign rally at the DDSC Stadium in Dimapur.
Irani's scheduled visit to Dimapur was part of her northeast election campaign tour, state BJP sources said.
On the other hand, state Congress unit would have its party vice-president Rahul Gandhi at the Local Ground in Kohima to kick-off their campaign.
