Murder in lodge: Odisha native arrested
The police are also searching for Madhav, a relative of the arrested person, in connection with the murder

Praful Swan alias Pintu, 21, a native of Ganjam, Odisha, was arrested in connection with the murder of an accountant at a lodge in Thevara last month. The police are also searching for Madhav, relative of Pintu, who was involved in the murder.

The arrest was made following a tip-off to the police. Sunil Kumar, who was found dead at the lodge on July 22, had several non-Keralite friends. He also maintained close relationship with Santhosh, an employee in a nearby juice shop.

When the police quizzed Santhosh, it was found that Pintu and Madhav, who were in constant touch with Sunil, were missing since the day of murder. Later, the police went to Odisha and took Pintu into custody.

Pintu confessed to the police that he, along with Madhav, had murdered Sunil Kumar for looting the electronic goods in his room.

“Pintu submitted that he and Madhav went to Sunil’s room to watch TV. When all the inmates of the lodge had gone outside for food, they slit Sunil Kumar’s neck. The duo then took  an LCD TV, laptop, mobile phone and a DVD player from the room. The LCD TV was sold to a friend in Aluva and the duo left to Odisha,” the police official said.

Sunil Kumar, 23, was a government employee and had taken leave to work with a private company. His body was found in a decomposed state in the lodge last month.

The arrest was made by the Ernakulam South police team led by Circle Inspector G Venu.

The accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate and has been remanded in police custody.
