New Delhi: Sanjay Dutt has been the cynosure of all eyes for quite sometime now. First it was the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) court’s decision, which kept the actor in the centre of the storm, and then came the rumour of him marrying the Gangajal item girl.
But one thing’s sure – Munnabhai is not alone in his battle.
On Monday, Mumbai’s bigwigs came together to file an affidavit urging the designated TADA court in Mumbai not to sentence the actor to imprisonment.
Among those to sign the affidavits are Dilip Kumar, former Mumbai sheriff Nana Chudasama, and social workers Dr Yusuf Merchant and Vipula Kadr.
The TADA court had found Dutt guilty of illegal possession of arms but was absolved of conspiracy in the 1993 Mumbai terror bombings.
The signatories have submitted that Sanjay Dutt has a good moral character and would not commit any crime if released by the court.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt also moved an application before the court stating that there were no reported instances of bad behaviour on his part while out on bail.
He also submitted that he came from a family closely associated with social work.
Dutt had pleaded the court for more bail time as he is yet to finish work in his unfinished film projects, sort out the will of his late father actor Sunil Dutt and complete financial arrangements for his teenaged daughter Trishala, who lives in US with her maternal grandparents.
Dutt also sought to bring to the court's notice, his socially relevant films like Lage Raho Munnabhai for which he has received immense appreciation from the film industry as well as from the people.
