Mosque on fire, Mau back on the boil
Mosque on fire, Mau back on the boil
After a lull, the UP town is on fire again. A day after curfew was lifted a mosque was set ablaze.

Mau (UP): The day after curfew was lifted in Mau, a mosque was set ablaze and the doors were ruined beyond repair on Sunday.

District authorities have replaced the doors of the mosque and deployed security personnel around the area to keep the situation under control.

With no signs of communal tensions in any part of the town for the past couple of days, the day curfew had been lifted in some areas on Saturday.

But tension in the sensitive Sabzi Mandi area of riot-torn Mau resumed after the mosque was set on fire.

"Barring this act of arson, no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere in the district. The night curfew is still in place," said a district official.

Authorities say if there is a continued improvement in the situation, curfew could be lifted by Monday. But a high-level meeting would review the situation before taking a final decision.

Meanwhile, the administration is focusing on the rehabilitation of those affected by the communal clashes during the Dussehra festival last month.
