MK gives Congress clean chit on Kanis arrest

CHENNAI:  Dispelling speculation that DMK’s high-level committee could decide to snap ties with the Congress over the detention of MP Kanimozhi in the 2G scam, and pull out its ministers from the UPA-II Cabinet, party president M Karunanidhi on Friday maintained that ties between the two parties remained intact.The DMK patriarch instead turned his guns on the CBI for “wrongly” arraigning his daughter in the case when the loan taken by Kalaignar TV’s management was purely a business deal conducted in a transparent manner.Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting of the high-level panel on Friday, Karunanidhi said he did not see the Congress using the CBI as a political weapon. When he was reminded that he had said at Tiruvarur that Kanimozhi’s arrest was due to Congress’ inaction or action, he accused the media of ‘twisting’ his statement.When pointed out that the Congress mouthpiece ‘Sandesh’ had attributed the electoral debacle of the Congress-DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to the 2G scam, Karunanidhi said the publication could not have said anything like that, and added that all was well between the allies.
