KOCHI: A fire broke out at a vegetable shop in the Jew Street market on Thursday night. According to the Fire and Rescue Services personnel, the old wiring system in the shop caused the fire which broke out at 9 pm. “The wiring system at the shop was weak and it is suspected that a short-fuse ignited the spark. However, the traders of other shops noticed the fire before any big damage was done,” Gandhi Nagar station officer A S Joji said. But shop owner Ismael, of P Mohammed & sons, insisted that the fuse had been removed before the shop was closed for the night. A nearby wholesale plastic shop was also spared from any damage. Following the incident, all goods from the nearby shops were moved to another location.
