BELLARY: The 10member expert committee constituted by the Supreme Court to conduct field survey around Shri Jambunatheshwar Temple, following a PIL seeking protection to the temple due to mining, is scheduled to visit Hospet on June 6.
Hearing a PIL of Hospetbased advocate K Guruprasad Rao seeking protection for the temple due to mining in its vicinity, the apex court directed the state to stop mining activities within a 2km radius of the temple and constituted an expert committee to conduct study in this regard. The team involves director of archaeology and museums, Mysore (convener), superintending archaeologist, ASI, Bengaluru, representative of geological survey of India, A V Marappanavar, regional director ecology and environment, Belgaum, Dr B N Shankar, deputy director mines and geology, G S Vasudevan, assistant professor ancient history department, Hampi Kannada University, Pankaj Modi, conservation architect, Indian National Trust for Art and Architectural Heritage, a representative of the directorate of mines safety, Dhanbhad, representative of the Indian Bureau of Mines and deputy director archeology and museums, Kamalapur of Hospet.
