THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The second All-Kerala Terumo Penpol-Kerala Tennis Association Mini Tennis Championships were held at St Thomas School, Mukkolakkal, the other day. The two-day event was inaugurated by Minister for Sports, Forests and Cinema K B Ganesh Kumar. Dr Amit Mallick, Director of Sports; P M Abraham, secretary, St Thomas Schools; Dr P A Thomas, former vice-president of the St Thomas Schools Society; coach M R Ramesh; Thomas Jacob, secretary, Trivandrum District Tennis Association; and Jacob C Kallivayalil, president, Kerala Tennis Association, were present at the inaugural function. The winners: Girls Under-10: Shemeema Shersha, SSNSS, Varkala; Boys U-10: Rohan Jose Paul, Global Public School, Kochi; Girls U-8: Gayatri Rajesh Menon, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Kochi; Boys U-8: Devansh Bafna, Global Public School, Kochi. In his inaugural address, the Minister said that ` 12 lakh had been sanctioned for constructing a tennis court of international quality in Peyad panchayat. The Government proposes to build 30 such courts in select panchayats of the state so as to take the game to people in rural areas. C Balagopal, MD, Terumo Penpol, and Jacob C Kallivayalil distributed the prizes during the valedictory function.
