New Delhi: Deepa Mehta is going to face the same problem in 'Midnight's Children' that most of the directors encounter while adapting a book for the visual medium. Salman Rushdie is known for the touch of magical realism in his writing which can be a tough thing to translate on screen.
If the film is going to be true to the homonymous novel then it would portray the post independence scenario in India where Saleem Sinai would narrate a story that throws a new light on Indian social fabric.
Some religious and political organisations have problems from the film, which ranges from depiction of Indira Gandhi to the portrayal of religious symbols, but Deepa Mehta has always taken a stand against intolerance, so we can hope for a brave film from her.
The film stars Satya Bhabha, Shriya Saran, Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi and Seema Biswas in important roles, while Rahul Bose will be seen in a cameo.
We can always expect a sensible film from the director of 'Fire', '1947 Earth' and 'Water'.
