PUDUCHERRY: Handicraft items made by mentally challenged persons caught the attention of many visitors at the Craft Bazaar on Sunday. They were made by the patients of Arisjuvady Mental Health Center, near Moolakulam, Puducherry.Dr R Ilavajagan, an official with the center, said that the craft items were made by mentally retarded inmates. Agarbathis, perfumes and sambranis made by male patients, and dolls and glass paintings made by female inmates were on display.The stall also displayed a request to help the mentally challenged persons by buying the items.The Craft Bazaar, inaugurated by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, is yet to pick up on sales. It ends on June 3. The bazaar is organised by the Puducherry State Co-operative Handicrafts and Handloom Federation Ltd and sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Government of India.Most of the stalls at the bazaar in AFT grounds remained unoccupied till Sunday. Officials hoped that a number of stalls will be set up by Tuesday.
