HYDERABAD: The elections to the post of mayor and deputy mayor of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have been postponed to January 3, 2012. The elections were earlier scheduled to be held on December 30.The elections were reportedly postponed due to internal bickering and groupism among senior Congress leaders including the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, GHMC Congress president and minister Danam Nagender, MP Anjan Kumar Yadav and Congress MLAs from the city over the choice of deputy mayor. Anjan Kumar Yadav in a representation to the State Election Commission stated it is was not possible for MPs to participate in the voting on December 30 as they are busy attending the winter session of Parliament, which ends on December 29.Based on the representation, the SEC postponed the elections to January 3.Meanwhile, MIM leaders accused the Congress for delaying the elections for frivolous reasons.
