BHUBANESWAR/KORAPUT: In what may turn out to be a matter of grave concern for the State Government and his family members, the Andhra Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the CPI(Maoist) has threatened “extreme action” against abducted MLA Jhina Hikaka if combing operations and police action in the area are not stopped forthwith. The Maoists, in a statement, made a chilling reminder to the Government which, they said, has gone back on its promises made during the release of then Malkangiri Collector R Vineel Krishna. However, they have issued no deadline and refused to name negotiators. The AOBSZC has threatened that if the Government or the police try to act smart, they will get the dead body of Hikaka. The group has also owned up the killing of SI K C Rath in Malkangiri district last week when talks were in progress for the release of the two Italian tourists. The statement has been issued in Telugu and signed by the outfit’s divisional commander Daya and Jagabandhu. The Maoists maintained that as long as “Operation Greenhunt” is not stopped, such incidents would take place. They have also made it clear that they would not name any negotiator for talks with the State for the release of the MLA.Of the several demands put forth, the outfit has said the Government must unconditionally free all the political activists lodged in jail and implement all the promises made during the release of Vineel Krishna last year. The Press release emphasised that if the activists are freed, then Hikaka would be a free man immediately.Hikaka has also written a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik saying that he is safe and in good condition. Hikaka has requested Naveen to agree to all the demands and ensure no peace rallies and processions are taken out.Naveen said the Government has received the letter and the Press release by the Maoists and that the demands are being looked into.Alleging that the Government is trying to make a fool of the Maoists, the release sought immediate halt to “Operation Greenhunt” meant to suppress the working class and to extend support to the rich and the landlords.Referring to the arrests of village-level and top-level Maoists, the release said they had to resort to the kidnapping of the MLA, and earlier Vineel, for these reasons. The Government not only went back on its promises immediately after Vineel’s release, it raked up the old issues against the Maoists. They cited as example arrest of 500 people after the release of Vineel Krishna. Of all these, only two were produced in the court and Maoist K Badal was even tortured and killed, the release claimed. The Government tried to eliminate Nachika Linga, the leader of the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS) and martyrs memorials were demolished, the release added.
