ROURKELA: Close on the heels of the arrest of four Maoist operatives along with explosives, Rourkela police arrested a hardcore Maoist while he was trying to plant a landmine on a forested road under Chandiposh police limits in the wee hours of Wednesday.Rourkela SP Himanshu Lal on Wednesday identified the Maoist as Pando Bankiray alias Champian (23), a close associate of Samarjee alias Anmol Hembram, secretary of the Dakshin Chhota Nagpur Zonal Committee of the Maoists. Champian along with three others was trying to plant a landmine on the unpaved forest road of Karda-Purunapani under Chandiposh police limits when joint forces arrested him while three managed to flee.A landmine weighing 15 kg was recovered from his possession. Police said the Maoists confessed that they had targeted security forces engaged in the area domination operation. The arrested Maoist also confessed to be involved in a host of violent incidents, including the killing of SI Ajit Bardhan and loot of an explosives-laden van in 2009. Two days ago four Maoists along with a heavy landmine were arrested from Bisra police limits area while they were trying to plant explosives on the road.
