BHUBANESWAR: A man pushed his wife from a 3-storey building in Gauri Nagar area of the City on Wednesday morning. The woman survived the fall but was injured.Laxmi Priya, the victim, has been admitted to Capital Hospital but her husband Ajit Dalei is absconding. A case has been registered with Mahila Police Station.Police said Ajit had taken his wife to the terrace of the third for a little chat but the woman was unaware of her husband’s ulterior motive.The couple were going through a rough patch as Ajit’s family never accepted the girl since theirs was a love marriage. They apparently subjected her to humiliation because she never brought any dowry. Ajit, on his part, was driving his uncle’s autorickshaw but was never settled. He too had cultivated bad habits lately. Police suspect that he might have tried to eliminate his wife in a bid to end tension.Though Laxmi Priya was staying with her in-laws at Jagatsinghpur for last several months, the couple moved back to the City three to four months ago. They did not have a permanent place to stay and was accommodated on the terrace of a friend’s house in Gauri Nagar.Investigation revealed that the couple had slept on the terrace on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, they had a fight too and Ajit wanted to have a talk with her and took her near the side walls before giving her a push.The place where Laxmi Priya fell was a swamp which saved her life. She suffered injuries on her left hand and waist but escaped without any major injuries.“Had she fallen on the road or a hard surface, it could have proved fatal,” said locals who rescued her and intimated Lingaraj Police said.Police have launched a manhunt for Ajit.
