PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for Phase- III of development of Walk Way along Manjakkal River, heritage precinct, and renovation of collectors bungalow in Mahe. The projects, worth Rs 7.98 crore, have been taken up under Central Financial Assistance of Ministry of Tourism, Govt of India.Tourism Minister P Rajavelu said that as land in Mahe was a constraint, the tourism department has already developed Manjakkal River front and restaurant, walk way along the river for about 600 meters in the first phase.The second phase of walk way development was scheduled to start, but due to technical reasons central financial assistance was not granted. However, the sanction for third phase development for Mahe walk way, worth Rs 6 crore, besides two other small projects, worth Rs 1.98 crore, have been sanctioned.
