Mumbai: Authorities in drought-hit Latur district in Maharashtra have stepped up guard in order to avoid violence over water. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Latur in order to avoid any violence over water shortage.

The order imposed prohibits gathering of more than five people in area around 20 water tanks. The orders were issued by the District collector to prevent violence around the civic body run water tanks.

Latur is one of the worst drought-hit districts in the Marathwada region.

Congress leader Ashok Chavan said, "The situation in Latur is bad. There is no water for weeks. The government should have done something for the people earlier."
