KOCHI: What raises many an eyebrow in the wake of the Delhi bomb blast is that the Kerala government has not made any move so far to install CCTV cameras on its High Court premises. The tender for the CCTV cameras was invited in May this year. Apart from that, the authorities concerned have not done anything concrete to carry forward the project, sources said. The security officials had recommended the urgent need of CCTV cameras on the court premises and given directions regarding the places the devices should be placed. The police had conducted a security audit of the complex and suggested a number of places where the cameras should be installed. However, the government has not made any move to materialise the project, worth over Rs. 2 crore. But the project died down with the change of government. “The government should take the security system on the court premises as a serious issue and immediately install the cameras. You cannot blame the security system after any incident takes place. Even if the CCTV cannot prevent such incidents, it can give an idea of the sequence of events that took place and the police can keep strict vigil round the clock,” a senior security official said.
