PHULBANI: The Kui Samaj Coordination Committee has called a district bandh from December 24 to 27 claiming that the State Government and district administration have failed to fulfil their demands in three years. Committee secretary Lambodar Konhar said, “We decided on the date of the bandh at a public meeting in November as the demands were not met.” The demands include action against the persons possessing fake caste certificates. On the other hand the strike call has spread panic among the Christians who are planning to celebrate Christmas after four years. The same tribal outfit had called for a strike in December 2007 that led to the killing of two Christians in the Christmas week. Hundreds of houses were also torched. Meanwhile, the Christian community has urged the State Government to persuade the tribal outfit to call off or postpone the bandh to ensure a peaceful Christmas celebration.
