THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Baba Ramdev’s satyagraha against black money and the corrupt may have made him an instant celebrity, but the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the state-run power utility, remembers him for all the wrong reasons. The saffron-clad Yoga guru’s visit here on March 30 had hogged the limelight, but there was one small incident - reported by a few media including Express - that the organisers of his visit would rather forget.A massive Yoga camp organised by the Bharat Swabhiman Trust at the Corporation Ground, Poojappura, here was also the scene of a power theft.Electricity was drawn without authorisation from an overhead line. A KSEB squad caught the theft red-handed and fined the culprits a tidy Rs 22,000.“They paid up the same day,” KSEB sources said. However, state leaders of Bharat Swabhiman Trust deny they had anything to with the incident. “The theft occurred after the programme, in fact. The North Indian contractors for the stage arrangements who had nothing to do with us did it while packing up. But we took it very seriously. They were fined and the money was paid,’’ said K V Rajendran, state general secretary of the trust. The seven-hour function which began at 4 a.m. featured Yoga classes followed by a free medical check-up by Ayurveda doctors who accompanied the Yoga guru. Later in the day, Ramdev also addressed a well-attended function organised by the Bharateeya Vichara Kendram at which he spoke about his stand against corruption and black money.
