Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee finally said on Monday that stern action would be taken against those involved in sexually abusing a kindergarten girl student of GD Birla Centre for Education in south Kolkata.
Speaking to media persons at the state secretariat, Mamata described the incident as “very unfortunate” and said the investigating authority has been asked to give the case utmost priority.
“The state school education department is looking in the matter and those who are guilty will not be spared,” she said.
The incident took place on November 30 when a four-year-old girl studying at GD Birla School was allegedly lured by the physical education teachers to the toilet and sexually assaulted.

On Monday morning, a large number of parents gathered in front of the school and blocked the road in front of it. They demanded the immediate arrest of the school principal.
The girl’s father has also lodged a complaint against school principal Sharmila Nath at Jadavpur Police station. He accused her of suppressing the matter and not taking adequate security measures for the students.
So far two teachers - Abhishek Roy and Mohammed Mofizul – have been arrested. They were booked under sections 4 and 6 of POSCO act, which could lead to a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The girl was shown pictures of four teachers and the girl identified two of them immediately.
