New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and Laxmi Nagar candidate Dr Ashok Kumar Walia took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party chief ministerial candidate Kiran Bedi saying she will turn Delhi into a police station.
"Agar Kiran Bedi chief minister banegi toh Delhi ko thana bana degi. (If Kiran Bedi will become chief minister, she will turn Delhi into a police station)," says Walia.
Bedi, a former IPS officer and Team Anna member, served in Delhi Police for several years and her stint as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) is still remembered by people which earned her the moniker 'Crane Bedi' for cracking down on illegal parkings.
But Walia is unperturbed by Bedi's reputation and is leaving no stones unturned to regain the seat which he lost in 2013 to Aam Aadmi Party's Vinod Kumar Binny by almost 8,000 votes.
Walia, who won Laxmi Nagar seat four times since 1993, says, "The reason behind the loss was the people of Delhi were angry with the Congress. Even AAP mislead the people but now they are frustrated as no work has been done in last one year."
While leaders of BJP and AAP are extensively campaigning in the national capital, former chief minister Sheila Dikshit is nowhere to be seen.
"Sheila Dikshit is not campaigning. Only Delhi Pradesh Congress Committtee members and All India Congress Committee members are campaigning for the polls," Walia adds.
Walia is contesting against BJP's BB Tyagi and AAP's Nitin Tyagi. Vinod Binny is now BJP's candidate from the neighbouring Patparganj.
