HYDERABAD: The compensation for damage of houses in Maoist attacks has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000.An ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh will be paid to the kin of police personnel, who were killed in Maoist attacks before 1996 and who have not received any benefits from the government and Rs 5 lakh for those whose family members are not eligible for jobs.Decisions to this effect were taken at a cabinet subcommittee meeting held in the Secretariat on Monday. According to official sources, as many as 102 police personnel were killed by Maoists before 1996.The kin of the police personnel have not received any aid from the government so far. The cabinet subcommittee meeting was attended by finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, home minister Sabita Indra Reddy, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy and social welfare minister Pithani Satyanarayana and other officials concerned.The committee discussed the rehabilitation of police martyrs' families and surrendered Maoists.The bogus list of surrendered Maoists also came up for discussion at the meeting. Due to the delay in rehabilitation of the surrendered Maoists, many of them rejoined the extremist ranks, sources said.
