THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Disciplined trade unionism will always attract more investment in industries and ensure smooth functioning of government institutions. To ensure that trade unions follow certain guidelines in various sectors, it is planned to give intensive training to women trade union leaders in the state.Kerala Institute of Labour and Employment (KILE) will take the initiative in this regard. The year-long programme is expected to give a boost to effective functioning of trade unions in the state.KILE director A K Shrihari said that the thrust will be given to train women trade union leaders at the state-level and district-level. A state-level training is expected to be conducted by next month.“The training will continue in all the districts emphasising the need for practising fair trade unionism in the state. Similar programmes were conducted last year and it will be more intensive this year to achieve the goal”, he said. In the initial phase, women leaders will be selected from all the trade unions affiliated to various political parties. The leaders will be made aware of the need for following fair means to achieve their objectives which will be passed on to the lower ranks of their unions. Spreading the message among trade unions to follow certain guidelines is expected to help improve investment climate in Kerala. The entrepreneurs are reluctant to invest in Kerala fearing unhealthy trade unionism. “It is expected that around 300 women trade union leaders could be given training this financial year. They in turn will pass on the message to all the trade union members,” Shrihari said. A feedback on the programme could be known only during the next training session. A proper feedback would help devise corrective steps while launching similar programmes in the future. The Institute was constituted to provide education, training and research in labour, employment and related subjects. KILE will conduct training to trade union members in association with V V Giri National Labour Institute.
