Kerala to approach Centre to set up police aid post at airports
The move comes in the wake of the recent incident at Karipur airport in which a CISF jawan was killed in a clash between CISF and AAI personnel.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government on Monday said it would seek Centre's permission to set up police aid posts at the three airports in the state to avoid any law and order issues.

The move comes in the wake of the recent incident at Karipur airport in which a CISF jawan was killed in a clash between CISF and AAI personnel.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told the Assembly that at present Kerala police had no role in the affairs of airports as they are solely managed by the Airport Authority of India and the agencies like Central Industrial Security Force.

The state Intelligence Department has no access to the developments within the airports, he said.

"At present, state police can intervene into the domestic affairs of airport only if there is any law and order situation. So, we will approach the Centre to set up a police station or aid post at airports.

"There are also plans to instal complaint boxes at airports," Chennithala said replying to a question raised by A Pradeep Kumar MLA of CPI(M) in this regard.

"Co-ordination of various concerned agencies, including AAI, CISF, and state police, are necessary to

prevent similar incidents occurred at Karipur airport", he said.

Two ADGPs (North and South) of state police were directed to conduct periodical meetings with the directors of all three airports in the state to keep a tab on the developments in airports, he said.

On the investigation into Karipor airport shooting case, he said, "four cases have been registered in connection with the incident and the government is committed to carry out a free and fair investigation into it."

A CISF jawan was killed in the clash between the fire force wing of AAI and CISF personnel over frisking at Karipur airport on June 10.
