BANGALORE: Strongly favouring a national policy on medium of instruction in mother tongue up to fifth standard, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has decided to lead a delegation to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other ministers to press for the issue.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said that the delegation comprising KDA members and heads of all the academies in the state will meet the prime minister and other ministers and try to convince them to formulate a national policy on two important issues first, making the medium of instruction mandatory in mother tongue for students up to fifth standard and second, reserving the post of group C and D employees for the local people.The KDA Chairman said, "We will try and meet as many important people in the Union Government commencing from August 1."

The KDA has also planned to write individual letters to the 800 MPs in the country regarding the agenda.

Stating that the State Government has already sanctioned three acres of land to the Kalagrama situated near the Jnanabharathi, the Bangalore University campus in Bangalore, Chandru said, "We have no objection if the Centre wants to start courses in regional languages."
