MYSORE: Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation chairman and former DGP Shankar Mahadev Bidari said Karnataka is filled with narrow-minded people.“We should deal with such people in a broad minded manner.People are divided on the basis of caste, creed, religion, gender, employment and colour. To overcome this we should follow 12th century reformer Basavanna’s preachings,” he added. He was speaking after inaugurating the Basava Jayanti celebration in Mysore on Sunday, organised by Veerashaiva Employees Welfare Association. He asked the community to proudly announce that they belong to the Veerashaiva community and work accordingly.“Basavanna struggled a lot to bring women to the mainstream and strived for equality. He had opposed blind beliefs. There was no reservation system earlier. He built the Anubhava Mantap by involving people of all faiths,” he added.“The time has come to imbibe Basavanna’s preachings, as foreign countries are adopting his principles.Around 800 years ago, Basavanna created a revolution in society,” he added.
