Mumbai: Maharashtra Forensic Laboratory will complete by the end of this week testing of blood samples analysis of slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare and two other police officers, who were killed in terror attack last month, for alcohol content, Laboratory sources said.

State FSL at Kailna said it has received the blood samples of the officers who were killed by the terrorists on November 26 and said the results will be handed over to the investigating authorities.

State-owned J J Hospital's forensic experts of the postmortem centre had sent these samples to the State Forensic Sciences Laboratory asking it to examine the blood samples of the three police officials who include Vijay Salaskar and Ashok Kamte, for alcohol content and the request letter was dated November 27, hospital sources said.

According to senior forensic experts, in the normal course of investigation into terrorist attack, blood samples are not given to the labs. They said not even the viscera is tested in such cases where the reason of killing was well established.

It was only the clothes and bullets which are sent to the labs, they said.

Senior police officials said it was not essential for doctors to keep the blood of these officers for alcohol test as it was clear that the three officers were killed by the terrorists while exchanging fire.
