ERODE: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday reopened through video conferencing the TN Co-op Textile Processing Mill, Erode.This is the only textile processing mill of the government being run under the cooperative sector.As it had violated pollution norms, its operation was suspended from February 23. The CM said the mill, closed as per court order during the DMK rule nearly four months ago, was reopened immediately after the AIADMK came to power after remitting a fine to the TNPCB.The unit was functioning since 1973 with 247 workers. The share capital of 282 co-operative outfits in it is around `1.31 crore. It is managed by the director of handlooms and textiles as the chairman.Jayalalithaa said the mill’s reopening would help nearly 300 workers. Workers’ union leaders thanked her. Collector R Anandakumar, DRO Kumaravelpandiyan and mill’s MD M Palanisamy attended.
