'Jaunpur Ka Beta' is not a new film of actor Ravi Kishan, who is contesting on a Congress ticket from here, but what the Bhojpuri superstar calls himself as he makes an attempt to regain this seat in which his party has not made a comeback since 1984.
And he admits he has a tough task on hand.
"Congress' hand is almost forgotten here... I have to tell people the importance of Congress, which had played a huge role in Independence of the country. That time we were not even capable of making a blade and now see where the country has reached, thanks to Congress. All this has to be told to the people," 42-year-old Kishan said.
Quite stressed out with his dual role of acting and campaigning, the actor, who had also participated in TV reality show -- Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5, said, "It's quite hectic ... Nine of my films are on the floors... I am much stressed."
The sitting MP here is BSP's Dhananjay Singh, who has been charge-sheeted in connection with his maid's murder and is also an accused in a rape case.
The constituency, with a population of over 20 lakh, will go to polls on May 12.
Kamla Prasad Singh was the last winning Congress candidate from here in 1984. Asserting that he was among the locals, he said, "First, my parents belong to Jaunpur and live in a village here. I am a son of Jaunpur. My father is a pujari, I will remain here with him."
Asked what would be his priority if he wins the elections, Kishan said he would try to live among the people and stress on developmental works. "I can't stay for 365 days but will bring some development projects. I will find 500 Ravi Kishans here and empower them to work on my behalf."
He also said he would continue doing films.
"I will not stop acting. I will try to strike a balance between politics and acting," he said.
On why he joined politics, Kishan said there were mainly two reasons, though he was never interested in it.
He said he wanted to change the mindset of the people and had taken on "Project Jaunpur" for development of this Lok Sabha seat. "I was never interested in politics and never wanted to enter it... I am in the fray to work for people."
Now that he has decided to enter public life, Kishan said he is slowly "coming to understand how difficult politics" is.
"I have seen Jayalalithaa, Sunil Dutt, Raj Babbar, NT Rama Rao and others in politics, but now I am realising that it must not have been easy for them. Celebrities are more famous than parliamentarians, but they could not serve the people," he said.
On selecting Jaunpur, he said, "The fight is difficult. There is anger among people as to why Congress had not fielded strong candidates earlier.
"The people here have not seen development in the past 25 years and they are not satisfied with regional parties. The people here are being trapped on issues of caste and religion only," he said, adding he will work for the development of the city.
