IBNlive catches the film's first day first show, to get live audience reactions

Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti has been the most hyped movie this year after Kites. The film has an ensemble cast with impressive names like Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor, Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Rampal, Katrina Kaif . Let’s find out the audience verdict of Raajneeti.

The first day first show of Raajneeti saw college crowd in numbers and had occupancy of around 40 percent. And for the remaining shows, the plan was fast filling as the queue had already started to grow long.

Albeit a multi-starrer, the film doesn’t take much time to introduce its characters, which may come across confusing initially. But once you are familiar with everyone, that’s when the real fun begins. The audience cheered with the entry of every actor. Prakash Jha has managed to play his cards well. Whistles lasted as long as for a minute with the entry of Katrina Kaif. During interval, we caught up with few people to find out their take on the first half. “The film throws light on hardcore politics and I thought it would be little boring. But the film is very entertaining and keeps you involved,” says Akshay Shah, who owns a construction company.

Everyone loved Ranbir and Katrina in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and even Prakash is banking a lot on the hot on-screen pair. Pooja Gupta, a die hard Ranbir fan hurriedly says, “Ranbir is so cute and he is so different film in this film. His haircut, his acting, his mannerism, everything is so fresh. He has toned down a lot in his acting.” A 10 year old boy Rohan couldn’t stop talking about Katrina when asked him to comment. He says, “I love Katrina. I want to marry her. She is looking very nice in the movie”.

The second half reflects the dark side of politics and shows dirty games played by various characters. A senior government officer who didn’t wish to be named totally agreed with Prakash Jha’s take on dirty politics. He explains, “Everything in the film totally reflects the life of politicians in real life; big houses, expensive cars, body guards and the way they play dirty mind games. I think Prakash has definitely done a lot of research on this aspect. He himself is a politician so he has got all these little things right.”

A group of college students, Amit, Piyush, Jhanvi, Kalash, Ramesh and Vaishali were a little disappointed by the second half. They argued, “The first half is flawless but second half turned out to be a typical masala film. Too many twists happening at the same time.” When asked if they were bored by it, they quipped, “Not at all. In fact, it is a good watch. In spite of being close to 3 hours, it is still tolerable”.

The prices of morning shows are very low compared to the shows in the evening. However, this time the tickets were sold at a marginal higher rate than the tickets of Kites for the morning shows. Sandeep Naik, Operations Head, Cinemax explains, “The film duration is three hours so the number of shows lined up in a day are less than Kites. So we balance it by keeping the morning shows little expensive. But they are still cheaper than evening shows. With Kites, the film was close to two hours. So it was possible to line up many shows and have a better box office number.”

Well the audiences have given their thumbs up for Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti. So, this weekend in spite of not having any option in Hindi films, the only option available will not be bad at all. The film is definitely worth a dekko for its power packed performance and crisp screenplay. Ajay Devgn fans will be disappointed as he doesn't have much of a role.
