CHENNAI: Get ready to groove to some jazz, head bang to some death metal and be bowled over by some blues! Unseen Underground, in collaboration with the Score Magazine and metal music website, Headbangers India, brings to you JAM — Just about Music — a festival of rock, blues, jazz and metal. JAM will feature both established and new bands in an attempt to provide a platform to yet-to-be discovered talent, in the genres of rock and metal. Spanning a range of genres from technical death metal to folk and hard rock, the show will feature eight bands, seven of which are based in Chennai. JAM intends to bring unknown bands such as Like Weekend to prominence while hoping to attract fans with a gig from the popular band, Crypted. Others featured will be Trojan Horse and Djinns Lament, Jack, Johnnie and the Old Monk, White Lady, Anthramorphia and Dark Desolation from Bangalore.Unseen Underground, which was started in 2008, has organised events such as the weekly Saturday Night Live and the night-long Ragnarok conducted on new year’s eve. Unseen Underground isn’t only Chennai-centric; its Pub Fest, which began as a series of local performances, grew to mammoth proportions and soon became a movement that included bands from all over the country with performances in Kolkata, Shillong and Guwahati. The festival, soon to be a monthly or bi-monthly feature, is scheduled for today at Geoffrey’s Pub, Radha Regent Hotel, from 5.30pm till 11pm. A cover charge of Rs 300 is applicable.
