The Jamtara jail in-charge was asked to explain why he ordered a change of prisons for Shibu Soren.

New Delhi: The Jamtara Jail in-charge, under whom disgraced former Union coal minister Shibu Soren is held in Jharkhand for the murder of an associate and subsequently handed a life-imprisonment, was asked to explain why he ordered a change of prisons despite being ordered by the court to be kept there.

Soren's counsel filed a petition for his move from the Jamtara Jail to Dumka Central Jail, which was promptly agreed by the in-charge of Jamtara. But additional district judge Arun Kumar rejected the jailor's plea.

Soren, however, was moved to the Dumka Central Jail after spending three hours at the Jamtara Jail. When contacted, the Jamtara jailor said Soren was shifted only after getting due administrative clearance. "It is well within the norms. A person serving lifer should be lodged in a central jail," jailor Khushwaha said.

Khushwaha hasn't received the show cause for it.

Soren, now serving a life term for murdering his private secretary Shashinath Jha, had been brought by the Delhi Police from Tihar jail to honour a production warrant in connection with the 1975 Chirrudih massacre.

Soren is one of the 26 accused facing charges of inciting a mob that triggered the killing of 11 people at Chirrudih.

The next production date is January 16.
