Gaza: Israel continued to bomb the Gaza strip a day after air strikes on the Palestinian Prime Minister's headquarters.

Reports say that the militants could release some information about the kidnapped soldier on Tuesday but only if Israel releases all the arrested Palestinian prisoners.

Israeli missiles targeted a building used by militants in Gaza on Monday. Israeli forces killed a Palestinian gunman in the northern Gaza Strip after tanks and armoured bulldozers crossed the border amid efforts to free an abducted soldier.

They said the gunman, a member of the armed wing of the governing Hamas faction, was killed in an Israeli air strike. An Israeli military spokeswoman said forces in northern Gaza opened fire on two Palestinian gunmen, hitting one of them.

Palestinian witnesses said an Israeli armoured column crossed into Gaza near the northern town of Beit Hanoun, but the incursion appeared to fall short of a sweep threatened by the Jewish state as it tries to retrieve Corporal Gilad Shalit.

Israeli tanks and troops pushed into the southern Gaza Strip last week, the first incursion on such a scale since Israel quit the coastal territory last year after 38 years of occupation. Israeli military sources called the northern Gaza incursion a "pinpoint" action aimed at uncovering cross-border tunnels and bombs.
