CHENNAI: The Anna University would be bringing out a new curriculum for its management courses in 2012 and innovation would be one of the key aspects that the syllabus would focus on. For this, the university was open to inputs from various quarters, said its Vice-Chancellor Mannar Jawahar. Speaking to reporters during the announcement of a joint conference that the university would be organising along with the Chennai chapter of the IIM-Ahmedabad Alumni Association, Jawahar said while a number of colleges under its wings were leading innovation in the engineering stream in the State, the case was not so when it came to colleges offering management courses. Apart from improving the knowledge base of the students, the university would try to focus on adding skills and inculcating good values of management, he said. Visiting professor at IIM-Ahmedabad and executive editor of Kavithalaya Productions, Kandaswamy Bharathan, said the management education conference titled “Rethinking Management Education with Innovation and Creativity,” to be held on October 29, would delve into the need for business schools in India to consider changes in their curriculum based on a book written by Srikant Datar, professor at the Harvard Business School. While such institutions in the country did well when it came to the knowledge part, innovation and creativity was something that had to be improved, he said.
