New Delhi: The new Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty met former prime minister and Bangladesh National Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia in Dhaka to discussed bilateral issues including business, trade and economy.
It was call by the Indian High Commissioner who conveyed warm greetings of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Zia, according to Zia’s advisor Raez Rahman.
BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and former Foreign Minister Morshed Khan were also present at the meeting.
The duo discussed about strengthening trade and economic relationship between the two countries, Rahman said.
''There is no other way but to strengthen the trade and economic relationship,'' Chakravarty was quoted as saying. Zia in reply agreed with the view expressed by him.
The High Commissioner said that India would invest 800 crore Takain developing infrastructure of the land-ports on the Indian side of the frontier.
''Both the countries want good relations with each other,'' Rahman said. However, the political situation and the proclamation of emergency in Bangladesh was not discussed, according to him.
''The Indian Government will deal with whatever government comes in power,'' Rahman said.
Both sides have agreed to work together to fight against terrorism, according to Rahman.
