THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a heavy rainfall warning to south and central Kerala following the development of a low-pressure trough in the extreme south peninsular region. “Districts south of Thrissur will get isolated heavy rainfall which may reach an intensity of 7 cm. We have issued a 48-hour warning beginning from Tuesday afternoon,” Met Director K Santhosh said. Meanwhile, northern districts are expected to get scattered rainfall. Thundershowers are expected till Thursday morning.“The heavy rainfall warning is issued when 25 per cent of rain gauge stations will get high intensity rainfall,” Santhosh said.According to the Meteorological Department website, the trough of low pressure that developed at mean sea level over southwest Bay of Bengal off south Tamil Nadu coast persists with the cyclonic circulation aloft and is extending up to 3.1 km above sea level. No warning was given to fishermen since there is no change in wind pattern in the sea. Meanwhile, many parts of the state have been receiving normal summer showers. Most of the regions received a good rainfall on Monday.
