VIJAYAWADA: Students of IIITs at Idupulapaya, Basara and Nuzvid are in a fix as the authorities of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge and Technologies (RGUKT) has advised them to engage themselves in selfstudy with the help of their parents or employ a tutor till the end of HRTs (Home Room Tutors) and Mentors' stir without wasting the precious time.
There are 6,000 PUC students in the three IIITs. Each institute has a strength of 1,000 students in the first year and second year of PUC. The HRTs and Mentors went on mass casual leave on November 9. Following the launch of the stir by HRTs and Mentors, the RGUKT authorities sent the IIIT students home.

Last year, the RGUKT declared holidays from December 24 to January 16 for Christmas and Sankranti.

The parents of the students belonging to economically weaker sections cannot help their children in any way as they are not well educated. At the same time, the poor students cannot get a tutor as it is beyond their means. Thus there is no rationale behind the advice of the RGUKT authorities asking the students to engage themselves in selfstudy with the help of their parents or employ tutors. Speaking to Express, the mother of an SSC topper of municipal corporation high schools who joined the IIIT at Nuzvid, said the academic future of their children were uncertain. The parents of the IIIT students are little educated and small time employees who cannot help their children in any way.

The parents and students have demanded that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy intervene to get the IIITs reopened by ending the impasse between the RGUKT management and HRTs and Mentors.

The RGUKT management has to revise the academic calendar to ensure that the students do not loss an year because of the strike. With no weekly tests and monthly Common Assessment Test following the stir, the academic career of the poor IIIT students are in jeopardy.
