TIRUMALA: Senior IPS officer Madireddy Pratap allegedly caught a TTD superintendent by collar and manhandled him here on SundayThe officer is said to have lost his cool after being jostled by TTD staff while having a darshan of Lord Venkateswara Pratap, who has been posted as the CEO of AP Invest, later apologised to the superintendent.According to sources, the IPS officer of the 1991 batch had ‘suprabhata darshan’ along with his family members in the wee hours (around 3.45 am) of Sunday Though he was reportedly entitled to sit in the front row, the temple staff did not allow it.Pratap and his family members were treated like any other VIP guests and even as they were having a darshan, the superintendent and other TTD staff have reportedly pushed and jostled them Though the IPS officer asked them to allow darshan for ‘just a second’, the TTD staff told him to leave immediately.Irked over their behaviour, an otherwise sober Pratap, is said to have caught the superintendent by his collar As the situation appeared going out of hand, others who had come for darshan, cooled down the officer.The officer reportedly shouted at the temple staff, who in turn, explained that as his name was not listed in the day’s protocol issued to them, they cannot allow him to sit in the front rowAfter coming out of the temple, Pratap walked to the office of the JEO, KS Srinivasa Raju, and demanded an explanation from the staff why his name was not on the protocol list They said the JEO looks into protocolThen the officer asked them to call the JEO to the office immediately.When the staff refused to disturb the JEO at 4.20 am and wanted Pratap to come later, he insisted on speaking to the officer next to the JEOSuperintendent Gopalakrishna was summoned and when he started explaining a heated argument took place between the two In a fit of rage, Pratap Reddy allegedly slapped Gopalakrishna. The staff came to the rescue of their colleague and informed their higher authorities about the incident Later, the entire staff boycotted duties and staged a sit in at the JEO’s office till 10 am TTD chief vigilance and security officer (CVSO) GVG Ashok Kumar and Tirumala DSP Nanjundappa rushed to the spot and held discussions with the IG and the JEO’s staff The IG apologised to the superintendent and the staff joined duties around 11 am Later, speaking to mediapersons, Pratap Reddy said as he did not get proper reply from the superintendent and other staff, he lost his temper and manhandled the superintendent
