Hrithik welcomes SC's verdict on passive euthanasia
The actor who played paraplegic in 'Guzaarish' says it's a good beginning

Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict in favour of conditional passive euthanasia for terminally-ill patients, Bollywood hunk Hrithik Roshan, who played paraplegic in director Sanjay Leela Bansali's Guzaarish, says he can realise the pain of a patient who loses all mobility.

Hrithik says it's a good beginning and with time it would become easier for the society to accept it.

"Any act that ends consistent suffering in any form must be condoned. Euthanasia must be allowed in cases that merit it. But a system needs to be set in place to process the information and make a decision," he said.

"This is a good beginning, in time as we evolve as a society, it will become easier to see reason in the concept of euthanasia as a boon for those who are suffering to a degree, which you and me cannot even imagine," Hrithik said in a statement.

The Supreme Court gave a sanction to passive euthanasia if the high court concerned approves it. The process involves withdrawal of life sustaining drugs and/or life support systems for patients who are brain dead or in a persistent vegetative state (PVS), after their relatives and doctors convey their approval to high court.
