Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday threatened a man in a rally when he aired his grievance against the TDP government.

The incident occurred during a public meeting in Nandyala constituency of Kurnool district, where Naidu was highlighting the achievements of his government, including regular power supply in rural areas. He reportedly got upset after a man complained about irregular electricity supply in his area. "You are telling me current is not coming? You don't have eyes, you cannot see or what?" said an angry Naidu.

He added, “Which party are you from? Are you from YSRCP? Who sent you here? What you think you are doing? Are you drunk?" “I am the CM. You question me in front of my people. If you belong to another party then stay home and don’t come to my meetings," he added. This was not all. When another person said he had not received a farm loan waiver, Naidu said, "Are you drunk? I will send collector to your place and verify facts. If it is found that the information is wrong, I will book you."

A local TDP leader, however, said that Naidu's statements were blown out of proportion. He said that a group of drunkards were misbehaving at the rally despite repeated pleas by Naidu. Finally, police were called in and most of them were taken away. However, two-three of them were left and they again created a ruckus, the TDP leader said. Naidu again appealed for calm, but when the men did not pay heed, he got angry and gave the men a "stern message," the leader said.

Last month, Naidu was criticized when he made similar comments in the same constituency. He had said, "Don't use government services, if you don't vote for TDP. I will not hesitate to ignore those villages that do not vote for us."

Naidu has been making similar comments in past as well. In May, during "Mahanadu", the Chief Minister said, "Whoever doesn't vote for TDP should be ashamed."

Nandyala constituency is currently undergoing a bypoll after MLA Bhuma Nagireddy died in March. The election has become a prestige battle for Naidu. The opposition, YSRCP, has condemned the TDP leaders, including Naidu, for intimidating voters.

The party claims that TDP leaders have been telling voters that they are obliged to vote for them as they walk on roads laid by them and they are getting pensions from them.
