Srinagar: The Hizbul Mujahideen, the main militant outfit in the valley, on Friday dismissed reports that the international terror network al-Qaeda has set up its base in Jammu and Kashmir
"Al-qaeda had neither any base in Jammu and Kashmir in the past nor does it have any at present," a spokesman of Hizbul said in a statement to a local news agency.
A man claiming to represent al-Qaeda in Kashmir had said the terror network had set up a wing in Kashmir and appealed to Muslims to take up jihad, a news agency had reported Thursday.
An official said the government said it was taking the claim ‘very seriously.’
The man, who identified himself as Abu al-Hadeed, told Kashmir's Current News Service that "who so ever has carried out the attacks in Mumbai we express our gratitude and happiness."
